Where can you eat in La Paz with a great view, great food, and service that makes you feel at home? It’s one of the questions our visitors ask us most often. This time, we decided to visit Patio Península and experience it firsthand to see whether it lived up to the buzz.
The Service
From the moment we arrived, Maya, the host, welcomed us with genuine warmth. She greeted us with a smile, chatted with us for a bit, and—without us even asking—showed us to a table with an excellent view of the Malecón. With the sea breeze and people strolling along the waterfront, we were ready for a great meal.
The Mezcalitas
Since we were there as a group, we decided to do a little tasting: each of us ordered a different flavor of mezcalita so we could try them all. Several were excellent, but my favorite was the naranjita.
And here’s a confession: I thought naranjita was simply a small orange. It turns out it’s a different fruit and a true La Paz specialty. To me, it’s a little more tart, and that acidity gives the mezcalita a wonderful touch—fresh, balanced, and especially easy to enjoy in La Paz’s warm weather. If you go, order one without hesitation.
The Food
To start, we had the coconut shrimp, and it was excellent: crispy, with just the right touch of coconut and a sauce that pairs perfectly with an ice-cold mezcalita.
Then we ordered several tacos to share, including shrimp and fried fish tacos. They were generously filled, with the seafood taking center stage and the freshness you hope for when dining just steps from the sea. Between tacos, sips of mezcalita, and the view of the Malecón, the afternoon flew by.
Our Verdict
Patio Península is an excellent spot. Great service from the moment you arrive, mezcalitas featuring local flavors worth discovering, well-prepared seafood, and one of the best views for dining in La Paz. It’s ideal for a relaxed meal with friends, family, or as part of a day exploring the city.
